Founded in 1985 in Stevensville, Maryland, USA, PRS Guitars (named after its founder, luthier Paul Reed Smith), immediately took up the challenge of designing and producing guitars that meet the challenge of offering instruments with uncompromising sound versatility, exceptional playing comfort, and the highest level of beauty and craftsmanship. With models like the McCarty and the Custom 24, PRS Guitars has made a sensational debut in the world of guitar, dominating today by marrying the qualities of the Stratocaster (vibrato, crystal clear sound, soft bass, comfort of the game) and the Les Paul (creamy crunch, mediums affirmed, endless sustain and luxurious finishes), adding a character of its own.
The SE (Student Edition) range at PRS consists in guitars assembled in Korea, whose quality control is then carried out at the main factory in Maryland, USA. An effect of reducing production costs without compromising on quality, the result lies in guitars at a more affordable price, with a manufacturing quality of the highest level.
This is a 7-string with a sober and elegant finish, extremely comfortable to play, fine craftsmanship, and an incredible tonal palette. If you know anything about Periphery, you know that Mark Holcomb likes bright cleans, a wide range of crunches ranging from dry tones with lots of midrange to liquid tones with a velvety texture, and of course a super defined overdrive. The artist is also demanding, and needs a reliable instrument. If you don't know Periphery, give it a listen (we highly recommend Marigold on Periphery III).
In addition to the above mentioned qualities, this guitar is incredibly comfortable. Light, balanced, with a satin finish, and a Thin Wide neck profile that's very easy to handle, it's a sonic and visual bomb, and a fantastic tool to play all styles, from jazz to djent. Maybe less so the blues...
