Founded in 1985 in Stevensville, Maryland, USA, PRS Guitars (named after its founder, luthier Paul Reed Smith), took up the daring challenge of designing and producing guitars that meet the challenge of offering instruments with uncompromising sonic versatility, exceptional playing comfort, and beauty and craftsmanship of the highest level. With models such as the McCarty and Custom 24, PRS Guitars has made a stunning entry into the world of guitar building, which it now dominates by combining the qualities of the Stratocaster (vibrato, crystal-clear sound, mellow basses, playing comfort) and the Les Paul (creamy crunch, assertive mids, endless sustain and luxurious finishes), adding a character all of its own.
The PRS S2 McCarty 594 Thinline is aimed at players who want a lightweight, responsive guitar with immediate versatility. Its slim body, full mahogany construction, and coil-splittable pickups make it a reliable, expressive tool for the stage or studio. This is an incredibly solid choice for professionals and amateurs who want a straightforward, well-crafted guitar that delivers in a wide range of musical contexts.
The thin body and set neck provide excellent resonance, with quick response and strong sustain. The Pattern Thin neck profile is sleek and fast-playing, yet comfortable for chords. The rosewood fingerboard with PRS “bird” inlays offers smooth navigation and solid tactile feedback. The Black finish adds a clean, professional aesthetic suited to any setting.
The USA-made PRS 58/15 LT humbuckers deliver a broad tonal range: vintage warmth, clean articulation, and punchy overdrive. Coil-splitting via push/pull tone knobs gives access to bright, airy single-coil-like tones without significant volume loss. We tested it through a range of amps (Princeton Reverb, Dumble-style Magnatone, Marshall Plexi, Friedman Dirty Shirley) covering everything from light breakup to tight high gain. It delivered every time.
