The Northwood 80 Series Mini-Jumbo comes from Canadian luthier John McQuarrie’s workshop, whom we have a privileged relationship, where the building approach leaves each instrument with its own identity. The Mini-Jumbo format immediately points to a guitar with volume, while the narrower waist makes it more comfortable to hold than a full-width jumbo.
The guitar is built to be light and responsive. The Mini-Jumbo body gives the right hand real presence. When strummed, the guitar moves air, with a solid low end and serious projection. For fingerstyle, it keeps enough balance not to overpower treble lines or alternating bass patterns. Open tunings work particularly well on this body shape, with depth, sustain and good note separation.
The C-profile neck stays in a traditional acoustic register: enough substance to support the hand, without slowing down movement. The neck width gives space for arpeggios, open voicings and fingerstyle playing. Rosewood back and sides add plenty of overtones, broad lows and an open response.
