Based in the Belfast region of Northern Ireland, George Lowden revolutionized the world of folk guitars in the mid-1970s with a fiercely innovative and personal concept: a steel-string guitar with a projection comparable to the finest classical concert guitars, combined with incredible power and sustain. Unlike the American guitars of that time, which required a more vigorous pick attack due to their compression, Lowden guitars immediately caught attention and have continued to captivate guitarists in search of unparalleled sound and aesthetics.
George Lowden designed the Jazz Series with nylon strings and an internal pickup to create a very comfortable guitar for classical players and those accustomed to metal strings. The neck is wide enough to allow for easy use of the nylon strings, but at the same time, the fingerboard has a radius that allows for a wide variety of playing styles.
The soundboard made of Alpine spruce, both rigid and light, combined with a rosewood back and sides, gives clarity and brilliance with warm mids while offering a great deal of room for all the applications for which it is intended. The LR Baggs Session VTC pickup provides a genuinely excellent acoustic response, yet is stiff enough to allow for high volume without the entire guitar overreacting when played at full volume. The sound is very natural and full, without the overly vivid tones sometimes found on excessively lightly constructed classics.
