Based in the Belfast area of Northern Ireland, George Lowden revolutionised the steel-string acoustic guitar world in the mid-1970s with a bold and highly personal concept: a steel-string instrument offering projection comparable to the finest concert classical guitars, combined with remarkable power and sustain. Lowden guitars immediately drew attention and have continued ever since to captivate players seeking a unique voice and a distinctive aesthetic.
The F35C Ltd QMA/RED is built around a very high-grade selection of tonewoods, typical of Lowden limited editions. The Quilted Mahogany back and sides provide greater stiffness than standard mahogany, with a more direct response and improved projection. The Buckskin Redwood top combines the warmth and responsiveness of cedar with a wider dynamic headroom, allowing the guitar to remain clear and stable even under a heavier touch.
The F body with cutaway represents one of Lowden’s most balanced designs. The body remains compact enough for modern fingerstyle, offering excellent note separation, while retaining sufficient volume and depth for strumming. The multi-ply neck, ebony fingerboard and approximately 650 mm scale length deliver controlled tension and a very fluid feel across the entire neck, equally suited to precise playing and accompaniment.
Sonically, the Quilted Mahogany / Redwood combination results in a highly expressive instrument. The bass is firm and well defined, the midrange rich and vocal, with a fast attack and strong touch sensitivity. In fingerstyle, each note emerges with clarity and nuance; in strumming, the guitar maintains structure and definition without collapsing. This F35C sits easily in an acoustic or amplified mix, with a strong personality that never becomes intrusive.
