We are delighted to present an exceptional guitar, one that has left our hands still trembling. It is a fully original 1962 ES-335, apart from the pickguard (which is period correct), and it's in truly excellent condition (excellent condition+++). It is quite unique to come across such a well-preserved instrument, and especially one that has never been customized, retouched, or otherwise altered. With this guitar, there is no compromising the dream. The frets have suffered a little, but the guitar is still playable for a good while. The case is original and in good condition
Perceived today as a classic, the ES-335 was one of Gibson's most modern designs when it was first introduced in the Gibson Gazette in 1958. It was the company's answer to Fender's constant innovation, which was then devouring the electric guitar market share. With the ES-335, Gibson indeed created a whole new type of instrument, the Thinline. Designed for jazz musicians, it was eventually embraced by blues and rock players, including BB King, Chuck Berry, Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, and Larry Carlton, among others. Some have even dubbed it the "Burst Killer," as its sonic qualities can sometimes make the owners of Les Paul Sunbursts envious
The body, composed of three layers of maple and poplar laminate, features two f-holes, a beautiful Cherry finish, and not as many scratches as one might expect from 60 years of history. The finish was achieved by staining the wood and then applying a thin layer of varnish to give an intense color that still allows the wood grain to show through, letting it breathe and vibrate very freely. The neck is made of mahogany, with a profile slightly thicker than the early '60s Les Pauls. The rosewood fretboard is adorned with the very classy block inlays introduced in 1962. The overall feel is very comfortable to play, whether seated or standing. It is light and perfectly balanced
The pickups are original P.A.F.s (Patent Applied For) that are exactly what one would expect: powerful, round, creamy, open, and bright. They have a very melodic sound and a somewhat sweetened output due to the semi-hollow body construction. They respond very well to the potentiometer settings. The electronics (original) are impeccable: no crackling throughout the potentiometer range, and the jack output is solid
This extremely rare guitar exudes a timeless charm, embodies the nobility of craftsmanship, promises kept by impeccable quality, and the magic of a story that belongs to the legends of music. The years have further softened its character, which is reflected in a sound slightly less stiff than other hollow-body guitars.
