The Hot Rod Deluxe has been a Fender best seller since its creation. For a good reason: it offers 40 Watts of power, the clean representative of the brand, and a very well done overdrive, capable of getting into almost hi-gain territories. It has a magnificent spring reverb and a very efficient 3-band equalization.
There are no surprises with the clean channel: it's clear and bright, round, and very articulate. The second channel is overdriven, and the "Drive" control makes it easy to sweep through realms ranging from the 50s to the 80s. The "More Drive" switch, aptly named, is super efficient and can be engaged with the footswitch (included) to add a touch of OD that takes it overboard. An HP Celestion A-Type designed to offer a lot of headroom with an American voicing completes the package.
