De Leeuw Guitars, located in Pont-Sainte-Maxence, France, is a lutherie workshop founded by Quentin De Leeuw and David Schwarz, specializing in neck-through electric guitars. Blending tradition and modernity, the workshop manufactures custom instruments, emphasizing comfort, sustain, and rich sound. Each guitar is designed with meticulous attention to detail, from the chosen woods to the pickups. In recognition of its excellence, De Leeuw Guitars won the People's Choice Award at the Salon de La Belle Guitare in Montrouge in 2022 and was awarded the Grand Prix de l'Espoir du Made in France 2023. Each instrument is crafted individually, with careful attention to every detail, from the wood selection to the pickup choice, ensuring a unique and expressive instrument.
This custom guitar follows the workshop’s tradition of exceptional luthiery. It is built on a European walnut body showcased by a transparent gloss finish. The five-ply walnut/pear neck-through construction provides rare rigidity and immediate sustain. The rosewood fingerboard completes this selection of dense tonewoods, and the overall workmanship clearly reflects the standards of a high-end French builder.
In hand, the instrument feels modern: relatively flat radius, medium frets. The neck is stable and precise, with enough support for bends and a clean response in the upper register. The soft C profile feels slightly more comfortable than that of a classic Tele, but the most striking element is the remarkable resonance produced by the neck-through design.
Sonically, this TC Full Walnut does not imitate a traditional Tele. Walnut adds density, a firmer attack, and a more pronounced midrange. Clean tones remain narrow and precise, with a reactivity reminiscent of contemporary luthier-built instruments. The pickups—hand-wound boutique pieces—offer outstanding clarity, dynamics, and presence. The Dreamsongs P90 in the neck delivers warm, silky cleans with enough bite to push Tweed- or Marshall-style amps while staying well composed through a more powerful Twin. At the bridge, the Dreamsongs T-Modern Tele produces sharp harmonics and strong mids, with extra punch reinforced by the brand’s specific neck-through construction.
