De Leeuw Guitars, based in Pont-Sainte-Maxence, France, is a luthier workshop founded by Quentin De Leeuw and David Schwarz, specialising in neck-through electric guitars. Blending tradition with modern design, the workshop focuses on comfort, sustain and a rich, articulate voice. Each guitar is built individually with meticulous attention to detail, from wood selection to electronics. The brand has earned notable recognition, including the Public Award at the 2022 Salon de La Belle Guitare de Montrouge and the 2023 Grand Prix de l’Espoir du Made in France. Every instrument is crafted as a unique, expressive piece.
The De Leeuw MS6 Maple Walnut Dark Fontainebleau is a shred-ready machine with clean lines, refined construction and remarkable clarity in both clean and driven tones. Its luthiery combines a maple/walnut neck-through design with a sculpted body blending walnut and flamed maple. The Dark Fontainebleau finish is deep and organic, highlighting the MS6’s contours and giving it a strong visual identity. A rosewood fingerboard and stainless-steel frets reinforce the modern character of an instrument built for consistency and precision.
In hand, the MS6 stands out for its advanced ergonomics: slimmed-down body, generous bevels, immediate upper-fret access. The soft C neck and extremely flat 16" radius create a fluid feel suited to fast playing, tapping and sweeping techniques, and wide chord voicings with minimal strain (after due practice). The overall balance remains stable, and the guitar becomes nearly unnoticeable even through long sessions.
Its sound is driven by a pair of SP Custom Chaosland pickups designed for high definition and a firm, incisive attack. The bridge pickup offers a tight, cutting grain for tense rhythm work, while the neck pickup opens into a broader, more vocal register. The electronics are simple but carefully executed, preserving a clean, reactive signal that moves from dry, articulate cleans to dense saturation without sacrificing clarity. The articulation of the pickups and the resonance of the instrument have revealed a full range of usable nuances, with all types of cleans and crunches.
