Founded in the late 1970s by the late Bill Collings in Texas, Collings Guitars is the flagship of American manufacturing. While the brand now uses modern manufacturing processes, it makes no compromises: every element is carefully selected and every detail is given special attention, so much so that the quality of the models produced systematically exceeds that of the most renowned Custom Shops.
This is a gorgeous Collings I-35 LC Deluxe semi-hollow-body in Tobacco Sunburst finish. It features a laminated maple body, a Honduran mahogany neck with a C-profile and rosewood fingerboard, and a pair of Lollar Low Wind humbuckers, a Collings favorite that we are also fond of. The construction, finish and rendering are absolutely impeccable, and even in bad faith for the exercise, we couldn't find a single imperfection. It's obvious that Collings cares about its image, and being able to offer instruments without compromise is one of the advantages a workshop like this one has.
It's a light, well-balanced, silky-smooth guitar, and the Tobacco Sunburst gives it a vintage feel that bodes well for the tone you'll get from it. The neck is perfect for practicing all techniques, from the most old school to the more modern ones, thanks to a 12" radius that facilitates fingering, and a C-profile that fills the hand without cluttering it. The lacquer is nitro, which means it will wear naturally with the grace and style you've come to expect from other guitars.
Lollar pickups are among our favorites, not least because they offer an authentic sound that you can't get enough of. There's something lively about them, or at least they'll beautifully reflect what you put into them while playing. Even on the model in question, the Low Wind Imperial, which has a low windage, and a slightly less sharp dynamic than others, the nuances of your playing come out very well. The advantage of these guitars is that they allow you to get very subtle "edge of breakup", with a roundness and warmth that easily puts them at the level of the PAFs - the highlight being that they are new, so they are going to last more than a lifetime, like this guitar.
2 year warranty from our workshop.
