Founded in 1985 in Stevensville, Maryland, USA, PRS Guitars (named after its founder, luthier Paul Reed Smith), took up the daring challenge of designing and producing guitars that meet the challenge of offering instruments with uncompromising sonic versatility, exceptional playing comfort, and beauty and craftsmanship of the highest level. With models such as the McCarty and Custom 24, PRS Guitars has made a stunning entry into the world of guitar building, which it now dominates by combining the qualities of the Stratocaster (vibrato, crystal-clear sound, mellow basses, playing comfort) and the Les Paul (creamy crunch, assertive mids, endless sustain and luxurious finishes), adding a character all of its own.
The PRS Custom 24-08 10-Top in this striking Black Gold Burst finish is a premium instrument that carries the DNA of the legendary Custom 24, while introducing new features that expand its sonic versatility and playability. The mahogany body with a 10Top flamed maple cap creates a remarkable look and delivers outstanding resonance. The one-piece mahogany neck sports the renowned Pattern Thin profile for superb playing comfort. Its rosewood fretboard with iconic bird inlays includes 24 frets on a 25" scale length, balancing ease of play with precise intonation.
Outfitted with two 85/15 pickups—celebrated for their clarity and versatility—this guitar offers a 3-way selector for quick switching, plus two mini-switches for coil-splitting, effortlessly moving from humbucker to single-coil mode. The resulting palette goes from clean, articulate tones to heavier, even brutal, saturation. Through our Friedman amps, we got plenty of harmonics, and the humbuckers’ compression remained impressively dynamic in all our tests. True to PRS standards, the meticulously adjusted PRS Gen III vibrato and Phase III Locking tuners ensure unwavering tuning stability and smooth performance on stage or in the studio for years to come.
