The story of Music Man begins at the dawn of the 70s, when Leo Fender left the company he had sold five years earlier and began contemplating the creation of his new enterprise, named Music Man. An indefatigable worker, Leo embarked on this new adventure and, by 1972, had created his first instrument—a bass, naturally. This marked the birth of Music Man basses. Amplifiers and electric guitars followed. Drawing on his experience with Fender, Leo poured his heart into developing ingenious instruments, including the active Music Man basses, which quickly became absolute benchmarks in the music world.
Crafted with the precision and care of Music Man's artisanal tradition, this guitar is a superb HH model with a floating bridge, as well as the legendary ergonomics and playing comfort of instruments designed by Leo Fender. At the heart of the Sabre HH lies a carefully selected combination of woods, ensuring a rich and resonant sound that captivated us immediately. The body is made of okoume, complemented by a stunning flame maple top finished in Cobra Burst, highlighted by natural wood binding. This combination not only enhances the guitar's aesthetic appeal but also contributes to its exceptional tonal character. The sound is ample and "free."
The neck, carved from roasted maple, offers a smooth playing experience with its comfortable C-shaped profile. Adorned with a roasted maple fingerboard and sleek black dot inlays, every detail of the Sabre HH is designed to either elevate your playing, dazzle the eyes, or delight the ears. Music Man’s classic gunstock oil and special wax finish not only enhance the natural beauty of the wood but also provide a sublime playing feel: gliding over these necks is a pleasure in itself. Equipped with top-notch hardware, including a modern Music Man tremolo bridge with vintage-style bent steel saddles and Schaller M6-IND locking tuners, the Music Man Sabre HH ensures precise tuning stability and reliable performance, even during the most intense playing sessions.
We plugged it into various amps, and it shone through them all. Its two custom Music Man humbuckers—Alnico 5 at the bridge and Ceramic 6 at the neck—deliver a powerful and dynamic sound with exceptional clarity and definition. Their configuration provides an open and bright neck sound, while the Alnico at the bridge retains warmth and a slight muddiness that makes distorted tones so luscious.
