A flagship of Fender’s craftsmanship, the Custom Shop range represents the brand’s highest standards, from wood selection to hand-wound pickups, nitro finishes to hardware detailing. The result is highly reliable instruments with unmistakable tone and exceptional playability.
Inspired by late-’50s models, this '59 JRN Relic Stratocaster captures the look and feel of that era, with a beautifully aged Faded/Aged Sonic Blue finish. The relic work is subtle yet present, giving the impression of a well-played guitar with musical history, without overdoing the wear.
The alder body delivers a balanced tone with solid lows, smooth mids, and clear, open highs. The maple neck features a '59 Esquire C profile, slightly thicker than a modern C, but extremely well-balanced, offering great support without fatigue. The rosewood fretboard with a compound 7.25"-9.5" radius allows for smooth and accurate bends, even in the upper register. Medium vintage frets provide just enough resistance to keep a vintage feel while remaining comfortable.
The classic tonal foundation is powered by three Handwound ’59 Strat Single Coil pickups, delivering vintage clarity with a touch of natural compression. Each switch position sounds both pure and full of character: the neck pickup is round and expressive, ideal for singing lead lines; the bridge is sharp without being harsh; and the in-between settings deliver that scooped, slightly "spongy" tone that works perfectly for funk rhythms or more delicate clean phrasing.
The 6-saddle vintage synchronized tremolo responds smoothly, with a well-balanced tension. The control layout is classic (master volume, tone 1, tone 2) giving everything one needs to shape your tone without overcomplication. We ran it through a Deluxe Reverb, a Vox AC30, a Marshall 2061X, and even a Two Rock Vintage Deluxe brought one, and it just worked great every time. Clean tones had all the clarity and depth you'd expect, and with a bit of gain, it stayed punchy and dynamic without getting harsh. No matter the amp, it sounded right.
