Many children are fascinated by the trombone. It has a strong and pleasing tone which can slide smoothly from note to note, and it's visually exciting—-it looks fun! But unlike most other instruments, most trombones cannot be played by small children. Modern trombones were designed for adults, and many would-be beginners just cannot stretch their arms far enough to play all the slide positions. That's why created the YSL-350C. This is a full-sized trombone, using the traditional slide positions, but it's much shorter in length. With its ascending valve, you can play a full scale without using the two farthest positions!
This compact instrument is not only dedicated to children. Its universal ascending concept can be used by adults too. Its dual bore and 204.4 (8") bell deliver fine sonics matching quality standard horns.
The key to Yamaha's most innovative concept is the ascending rotary valve. When "open", the trombone is performed in Bb and uses the full air wave length. When the lever is activated, the pitch is raised by one tone. You can therefore play a full scale without using the 6th and 7th positions. Conventional trombones are bulky and difficult for children to handle. The YSL-350C is shorter, lighter, equiponderant and therefore perfectly adapted to young starters. Often copied but never equaled, this original model is unbeatable in terms of sound and workmanship.
