We are pleased to present to you a superb 1966 Gibson ES-335TD in very good condition (good condition++). Besides normal wear for its age, it has undergone some modifications: the original tuners have been replaced with Schaller ones, and the Trapeze bridge has been replaced with a Tune-O-Matic equipped with metal saddles. You will also notice a distinctive feature: it is equipped with "double trapezoid" fingerboard inlays. Indeed, the client who commissioned its construction at the time wanted it to have these inlays that adorned the ES-345 back then. The frets show slight signs of wear, but the instrument is in perfect playing condition. The case is original and in good condition.

Perceived today as a classic, the ES-335 is, however, one of Gibson's most modern designs, as it was first introduced in the Gibson Gazette in 1958. It was the company's response to Fender's constant innovation, which was then dominating the electric guitar market. With the ES-335, Gibson created a completely new type of instrument, the Thinline. Initially designed for jazz players, it was eventually embraced by bluesmen and rockers, including BB King, Chuck Berry, Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Larry Carlton, and many others. Some even called it the "Burst Killer," as its sonic qualities sometimes made owners of Les Paul Sunburst guitars envious.

The body, composed of three layers of laminated maple and poplar, features two F-holes, a beautiful Cherry finish, and surprisingly few scratches considering its 60-year history. The finish was achieved by staining the wood and applying a thin layer of varnish to give an intense color while still allowing the wood's grain to show, letting it breathe and vibrate freely.

The neck is mahogany with the typical Gibson profile from 1966 and beyond until the brand diversified its production. It's a relatively thin neck but offers great comfort. When we held it, we found it to be truly superb. The rosewood fingerboard is adorned with these "double trapezoid" inlays, a special request from the client who commissioned its construction. The overall playability is very comfortable, whether sitting or standing. It is light and perfectly balanced.

The pickups are original Patent Number ones that deliver exactly the sound you expect: powerful, round, creamy, open, and bright. They have a very singing quality and a slightly stiff response due to the semi-hollow body construction. They respond very well to the potentiometer adjustments. The electronics (original) are impeccable: no crackling throughout the potentiometer range, and the jack output is solid.

This magnificent guitar exudes the timeless charm of rock 'n roll and is ready to inspire those who want to reignite the flame of rockabilly, blues, and rock that illuminated the 60s and 70s. It also performs exceptionally well in contemporary indie and pop genres. It is a fantastic investment that will retain its value and sonic qualities over time; it has already proven this abundantly.
