The Hotterre familly (or should we say dynasty?) members were famous instrument makers, players and composers from the town of La Couture Boussey, in the Normandy region of France. Jacques Hotteterre le Romain is author of the influential treatise on baroque flute, recorder and oboe playing that still remains referential.

About ten years ago, Moeck has begun offering Hotteterre tenor recorders designed by Ralf Ehlert, in both A442 and A415 that were, when introduced on the market,  cited as "the best of available tenors" in American Recorder Magazine. Those tenor recorders are based on models by Jean Hotteterre (Paris, after 1640). They have a powerful and warm sound in all registers, most suitable for solo playing. Their extended compass of 2 1/2 octaves gives full access to the baroque flute literature. Because of of their considerable length, both models have keys for the lower notes.
