Jan Steenbergen (1676-1730) was a Dutch woodwind master recorder maker. He also made and sold various kinds of wind instruments as it was said "for a fair price, to be paid only if satisfaction was provided". He also has worked with the widely celebrated master Richard  Haka for eight consecutive years before practising as a master.

Steenbergen's originals were pitched close to A = 415 Hz, meaning that modern copists do not have to scale the bore. Different from other Dutch makers, he was perhaps more inspired by English makers, such as as Bressan and Stanesby.

The Moeck soprano is modeled after his instruments, the difference being that the Moeck is softer and sweeter, making it better for ensembles. It is however a versatile recorder, suitable for a wide range of baroque music.
