De Leeuw Guitars, located in Pont-Sainte-Maxence, France, is a luthier workshop founded by Quentin De Leeuw and David Schwarz, specializing in through-neck electric guitars. Blending tradition with modernity, the workshop crafts custom instruments, focusing on comfort, sustain, and a rich sound. Each guitar is designed with meticulous attention to detail, from the chosen woods to the pickups. In recognition of its excellence, De Leeuw Guitars won the public's choice award at the Salon de La Belle Guitare in Montrouge in 2022. Each instrument is crafted individually, with meticulous attention paid to every detail, from the selection of woods to the choice of pickups, ensuring a unique and expressive instrument.

The De Leeuw Nina Air Walnut/Maple Piezo in Parisian Grey finish is an astonishing guitar that showcases the talent and precision of De Leeuw's expertise. This guitar, with its seven-ply maple and walnut through-neck, not only ensures remarkable solidity and stability thanks to carbon reinforcement but also offers exceptional playability and comfort. The rosewood fretboard, adorned with aluminum inlays and maple binding, spans 22 jumbo stainless steel frets, providing unparalleled playing fluidity. The Luminlays side dots, combined with a 25.5" scale length and a medium C neck profile, ensure easy orientation and ergonomics suitable for all playing styles. We indeed found it to be very comfortable to handle and play, whether standing or sitting.

The semi-hollow walnut body, topped with a Pacific Maple table, reveals a modern and refined aesthetic, enhanced by the Parisian Grey finish. The body's contoured design, coupled with "drop" shaped soundholes, not only gives the instrument perfect ergonomics but also enriches its airy sound. The hardware, in bright chrome, includes Hipshot locking tuners and a Hipshot hardtail piezo bridge, ensuring unwavering tuning precision and stability. The Schaller strap locks enhance the instrument's security and reliability on stage.

The choice of Bare Knuckle Silo Chrome Cover pickups, in harmony with advanced electronics including a CTS potentiometer for volume and tone, an Orange drop capacitor, and a Graphtech Ghost preamp, allows the Nina Air to deliver a rich and dynamic sound palette, covering a wide musical spectrum, from crystal-clear cleans to the most saturated distortions. Regardless of the amp (we tested through a Magnatone, a Marshall Plexi, a tweed, and a Divided by 13), they impose their sound signature while respecting the amp's color.

The integrated piezo system, complemented by a magnetic/piezo/mixed pickup selector and a piezo/mix volume control potentiometer, offers an additional sound dimension, allowing musicians to explore new sonic textures. The electronic shielding in copper ensures impeccable sound purity and clarity, making the Nina Air Walnut/Maple Piezo not only visually impressive but also of unmatched musical performance for professional situations.
